Acne laser treatment

Acne are one of the most uncomfortable skin conditions, especially with young people during puberty. However, they are not constricted only to this age group. Adults come across this issue as well. Acne and acne scars can be very disturbing at any age. They can influence confidence, mood and overall quality of life. Timely acne treatment lowers the risk of scars, which can be equally uncomfortable.

Acne laser treatment

The term acne is a name for clogged pores with black and white top, pimples and cists that can appear on the skin.

Acne are formed at times when a high level of certain hormones in the body, during puberty or mature years, stimulate sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. These secretions stay clogged in the glands, and the skin becomes more greasy and prone to producing microorganisms. Bacterium flora from the skin’s surface, especially Propionibacterium acnes, populates the clogged sebaceous gland and induces an inflammation that we recognize as pimples. The bacteria number that develop is proportional to the amount of sebum, and the goal of the therapy is to reduce the number of bacteria and lower the sebum secretion. Applying laser has exactly that effect.

PREPARATION

PROCEDURE

During the procedure we use 3 types of medical lasers and LLLT photodynamic therapy.

Medical lasers, wave lengths 550nm, 808nm and 1064 nm. By combining these wave lengths we affect different factors that lead to acne. Certain wave lengths of the laser aim at corresponding skin receptors, which means that some lasers cause chemical changes in the skin, some cause changes based on the thermal effect, and some have both mechanism.

Laser acne treatment is done by following an individual protocol, 1 – 2 times a week, in a time span of 5 – 6 weeks. Improvement is visible after 4 – 5 treatments. Further protocol depends of the condition in the beginning as well as individual response to the therapy.

Treatment itself is not unpleasant. Slight heat and tingling sensation is felt, and it lasts for about 20 minutes.

RECOVERY AND CARE

There is no skin irritation after the treatment. Laser treatments do not damage the skin, nor leave any kind of trace.

Sun protection is needed after the procedure.
